Which Is Better-Combing Or Brushing?
A soft brush is less damaging than combing, but a stiff brush causes more damage than a comb. Prolonged brushing and back combing harm the hair considerably. The scales of the cuticle are ruffled because of this. And leads to knotting, which is difficult to untangle.
Never comb wet hair, it causes greater damage than ordinary combing. A good comb will never have sharp teeth. Nylon brushes with spiky ends are also damaging.
How To Choose Your Shampoo?
Usually, shampoos are detergent based(lauryl sulphates) with added chemicals, stabilisers, preservatives, conditioning agents, perfumes and colors. Always judge a shampoo by performance and not appearance, color, perfume and price. It's task is to clean hair and rinse out easily, leaving the hair smooth and manageable. Lots of lather indicates a high detergent content. Similarly thick consistency does not imply that the shampoo is more concentrated. Use a product meant for your hair type. For example, "for oily hair", "for dry hair", and "for normal hair". The basic difference here is in the type of detergent and concentration of the detergent (maximum for greasy hair) used. As for pH content in shampoos, neutral or slightly acidic shampoos are better for the hair.
How Safe Are Shampoos?
Shampoos are safe because they don't contain harsh detergents. The natural coating, hydrolipidic film, is retained on the hair.
How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?
It depends hair and scalp type, and the environment. Greasy hair needs to be washed frequently, even 3-4 times every week. Especially if your everyday work environment is dirty. Frequent shampooing does not harm the hair.
Do Exotic Shampoo Ingredients Have Any Real Effect On The Hair?
Though popular most shampoos do not really benefit the hair. The simple reason being, that it is rinsed off the hair in the shampooing process. Products like egg and beer act as conditioning agents, and cling to the hair, giving it body and shine. Amino acids and panthenol are used in shampoos because they give body to the hair.
Which Conditioner To Choose?
Usually applied after shampooing conditioners give shine to the hair. It may also give make the hair greasy if not rinsed properly. Often conditioning agents are incorporated into shampoos but the result is inferior, compared to seperate shampooing and conditioning. The term "balsam" is applied to conditioners which contain plenty of oils and protein. Exotic natural additives such as collagen, gelatin, allantoin and henna are also excellent conditioners.
Are Conditioners Safe?
Conditioners do have adverse effects. It may soften the hair too much, especially thin hair.
