The Art Of Make-up

Dressing up is just not about applying makeup correctly, but also choosing the right makeup for your skin type, complexion, personality and the occasion. When selecting a cosmetic your skin should be the only factor, which influences your choice. Always select cosmetics, which suit your skin type. If you have oily skin don't buy a cream for dry skin. Secondly buy makeup, which will enhance your skin colour or tone. There are basically 2 colour tones:

  • The bluish harmony or the cold tones.
  • The gold harmony or warm tones.

Identify your colour tone. The warm tones include colours yellow, beige, orange and brown tones with a tinge of green. The bluish harmony include blue, mauve, pink, reddish-blue and grey tones. Use colours, which compliment your natural skin colour. Also consider your personality while choosing makeup. A sober personality should avoid gaudy makeup. Carry the makeup you wear with style, rather than being uncomfortable with it. Wear dresses, which suit your makeup and are right for the occasion.

An Alluring Base:
Foundations:
What Are Foundations?
Pigmented products intended for application on the face and the neck are called foundations. They evenly colour the skin and hide facial imperfection such as scars, depressions and dark and light coloured areas. Foundations are of various types:
  1. Emulsions: They are less lustrous than liquid or cream foundations, but cover blemishes very well.
  2. Creams: They provide a heavy cover, but give a glossy finish. As they contain a high proportion of oils, they are particularly suitable for dry skins.
  3. Liquids: These are the commonest type of foundation used along with the cake variety. They are available for all skin types and give a light sheen cover. But they are too light to cover any blemishes and scars.
  4. Gels: For a light, natural look this is the best variety you can use, but only if you have a blemish free normal skin.
  5. Cakes Or Sticks: These are the solid forms of foundation best suited for oily skins since they have a drying effect. They provide a dense matt cover and are good for covering blemishes and scars. Though they are popular for photographic and stage work, they are too heavy for everyday use.
  6. Powders: Full coverage face powders have now given way to transparent powders, which control shine and provide oil blotting. Usually used after foundations they give a matt finish. Since they are more heavily formulated they are best suited for touching up during the day. Especially when you have to reinforce coverage because they contain a certain amount of foundation.
Are Foundations Bad For Your Complexion? No. As a matter of fact they are good for the skin.
  • They protect the skin against dirt, wind and environmental pollutants by acting as a barrier.
  • They also act as a sunscreen;
  • They balance the moisture levels of the skin since foundations contain moisturising agents.
  • They control the facial oiliness by acting as an all-day blotting agent.
  • Some foundations even contain medication to dry up pimples;
  • They even our skin tones, improve our skin colour and texture and disguising blemishes.

Application Technique:
Take a coin drop of foundation in your hand (add a complimentary tone if necessary). Dot it all over the face, nose, cheeks, chin, temples and in between the brows. Use your finger tips or a small clean, dampened sponge (from which excess water has been removed) to blend the foundation. Always work from the face outwards. This helps to avoid accumulation of the foundation around the hairline. Your movement should be from the cheeks to the ears, from between the brows down over the nose, from the chin out towards the jaw, then onto the neck. Work quickly, carefully and lightly. Put the foundation over the eyelids. Finally take a clean dry tissue and blot the face with it, pressing lightly over the skin.
