Applying Makeups
Shaping Up Your Lips:
With correct application of lipstick you can truly achieve a perfect finish to your face. Study the shape of your lips, identify the defects and decide on what you want to achieve and then proceed.
-
Small Mouth With Small Lips:
Take the lip liner pencil outside the natural lip line. Fill in with primer and finally with the lipstick. Highlight of frosting or gloss on the upper lip also creates an impression of fullness.
-
Large Mouth With Full Lips:
Apply liquid foundation makeup on the entire mouth. Outline with a dark shade of lipstick just inside the natural contours of the mouth. Apply lipstick of a lighter shade within this outline, don't let the color go out. Soft shades and medium toned lip colours work well for this kind of a mouth. Avoid dark browns, plums, electric bright or pale shimmer shades.
-
Full Upper Lip:
Apply foundation on the upper lip. Outline just inside its natural contour and apply a dark shade of lipstick. The lower lip should be outlined just outside its natural contour. Accentuate by filling in with a lighter shade of lipstick.
-
Full Lower Lip:
Outline upper lip just outside its natural contour and apply a light shade of lipstick in the center. Add a touch of lip gloss. Apply fluid foundation on lower lip. Outline just inside the natural contour. Fill in with a darker shade of lipstick, using a lip brush.
-
Wide Mouth:
Apply foundation to cover the corners of the mouth. Apply lipstick with a lip brush stopping just before the corners of the mouth are reached.
Patching Up:
If makeup has to be touched up during the day, only powder makeup should be applied, using a brush. Use gentle patting strokes and blot the excess off.
Blushers:
After facial makeup, it is time to apply the blusher. They add warmth to the face and enhance the facial contours. A blusher highlights colour when applied on the high edge of the cheek bones. It is blended to create a natural-looking blush on the cheeks. The powder blusher is the successor to the original rouge and most commonly used today. Cream blushers are newer than powder blushers.
Blushers also come in two colour harmonies:
1.The Gold Harmony with coral, orange and reddish brown tones
2.The Bluish Harmony with rose-beige colours.
Here too you might select both the right form and the right colour. Avoid blushes that are too bright or dark for your skin colour. The right blusher should match your cheek colour when you're really healthy. Choose a blush colour that will flatter your skin and give a natural healthy glow.
Blusher Colour Tips:
-
Fair skin - Beige, tawny and pink tones.
-
Olive/ Yellow- Warm brown, almond and copper shades.
-
Dark skin - Plum, auburn and deep bronze shades.
-
Tanned skin - Orange, apricot, peach and coral shades.
Blush is like foundation or base make up, which should not show. Always apply blush before your eye make-up and lipstick so that it does not stick out like a shaded outline of your cheeks. If you compete your eyes and lips color, with your blusher, then you will apply too much of it. Also, ensure you apply blusher in front of a well-lit mirror or else you may apply excess color due to lack of light. Apply no more than 3-4 brush strokes if you are not sure. It is unlikely that you will go wrong with that.
Powder:
Face Powders are vital in your makeup routine. Powder helps your makeup set perfectly, giving your complexion a smooth even finish. It also prevents the appearance of shine on the areas most prone to oiliness-the central panel. Available in either compact or loose form it is advisable to set your foundation with a loose powder because it helps to keep the foundation in place. Compact powders should be used for touch ups. Usually most women, regardless of complexion, have yellow-based skin. Thus for a flawless and natural-look it is recommended that they wear foundations with a yellow base.
Which Powder To Use?
Usually the pressed powders tend to cake and streak. Thus Fine loose translucent powders are the best. They are light in texture and provide a sheer, natural finish. But for extra oily skin, it is advisable to wear a matte translucent powder as it contain loads of oil natural absorbers. When applied after foundation it helps to set the makeup without adding too much extra color. If you are using a complexion powder, it can be used alone because it is more opaque and has a greater degree of color. They can be used with your foundation to set, adjust or enhance.
